It is with heavy hearts and much sadness that we share the news that our friend and fellow End Poverty Edinburgh member, Charlotte McLurg, passed away late last month.
Charlotte was one of End Poverty Edinburgh’s most active members, using her experiences to try and make Edinburgh, and the world, a better place for others. After living in places such as America and the Caymen islands where she has family, Charlotte eventually settled in Scotland.
Here, Charlotte formed many strong connections, such as with the church, which was a big part of her life. There, she was known to voluntarily cook meals, using her skills and passion to help others within her community. Family was everything to Charlotte, and her children were her life.
Despite being busy, Charlotte found time to advocate and speak out against poverty in Edinburgh and Scotland. She wanted to see change that would ensure people get the kind of support and housing they need to live their best lives. Charlotte played a big role in arranging and speaking at End Poverty Edinburgh’s first ever event.
When we spoke with Charlotte about her motivation for being part of End Poverty Edinburgh, she was her usual considered self and told us “I’ve been thinking a lot lately about wanting to help – pride has a lot to do with it – just because someone is in a tough position doesn’t mean they aren’t prideful. I'm always thinking what's a way to help someone without making them feel ashamed”.
We hold a lot of happy memoires with Charlotte, who was such a kind soul, making our group, and the world, a better place for all. She will be dearly missed.
Our deepest condolences go to Charlotte’s family and loved ones at this most difficult time.
