Building Hope – Shaping a Future of Mental Wellbeing and Financial Security

9 October @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

The Discovery College and HUG (Action for Mental Health) are excited to announce a special session for Challenge Poverty Week.
This event is an opportunity for us to come together, raise our voices against poverty, and work toward a more just and equal Scotland. A light lunch is included
Both Discovery College and HUG understand the deep and unfair impact poverty has on people living with mental health challenges or addiction, particularly in the Highlands. In rural areas, poverty often brings isolation and shame, and in 2019, HUG members contributed to research showing that those living in rural poverty had the lowest levels of mental well-being.
Today, we recognise that people with mental illness are more likely to experience poverty, and those living in poverty are more likely to face mental health struggles. On Wednesday, 9th October, as part of Adequate Incomes Day, we invite you to join us in a conversation about what this means for people living with mental illness or poor mental well-being here in Highland.
Whether you have personal experience of poverty or represent an organisation working to tackle poverty in our community, we encourage you to join us and be part of this important discussion.
