Disabled women’s experiences of poverty: challenging social care charges

10 October @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Disabled people are more likely to be poor, a situation that gets worse for women due to gender inequality. But do budgets recognise disabled people’s realities?

Join the Scottish Women’s Budget Group and the Glasgow Disability Alliance as we delve into how gender budgeting approaches can better support governments to achieve their policy priorities. Hear from experts about the impact social care charges have on disabled women and how this policy could be exacerbating child poverty.

Karen Wylie, Policy & Participation Manager at the Glasgow Disability Alliance, will present on our participatory work with disabled women, while Heather Williams, Training Lead at the Scottish Women’s Budget Group, will discuss what’s needed to increase policy coherence across government. The event will include the use of breakout rooms for you to explore how you could use this approach in your work.

Who can attend?

Campaigners, third sector professionals, policymakers, elected members and anyone who wants to challenge poverty through the use of gender budgeting approaches.
