West Lothian’s Tackling Poverty Conference – Poverty & Trauma
7 October @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
FreeWelcome to the Tackling Poverty Conference – Poverty & Trauma happening at Winchburgh Academy! Join us for a day filled with insightful discussions and workshops on addressing poverty and its impact on mental and physical health.
The conference this year will include presentations and workshops exploring the links between Poverty & Trauma and how we can work together to recognise the signs and become more trauma informed.
There will be 3 workshops to choose from:
1. Working Together to Enable Change
Jackie Galbraith, Principal at West Lothian College
Jinty Dobson, Peer Navigator, The TRUST, West Lothian College
Mark Deans, The Scheme
This workshop will be an interactive experience that will highlight the work of the college, The TRUST and The Scheme in how they work together to help people believe in themselves to choose their own pathway.
2. Understanding Anger
Linden Raeburn, West Lothian Council Anti-Poverty Service
Anger is something we all experience; a deeply biological reaction, but it’s causes and effects on us and others and rarely explored. This workshop will give insights into the reasons behind anger, common triggers and its relationship to past trauma as well as some hints and tips around trauma informed language and conversation.
3. Taking a Trauma Informed Lens
Caroline Doyle, West Lothian Council Anti-Poverty Service
Saima Akhtar, West Lothian Council Anti-Poverty Service
An interactive workshop with open discussions around the prevalence of trauma in people we work with; how this might affect them; and how our responses can be adapted in line with the principles of trauma informed practice.
